Giancarlo Stanton 2023 Player Outlook: Elite Power Remains But So Does Less Than Elite Health
It was a familiar story for Giancarlo Stanton in 2022. He missed time with achilles and calf problems, playing just 110 games and since playing 158 games in 2018 (his first season with the Yankees), Stanton has now played in a total of 290 games out of a possible 546 (53%). He has played in 77% of games over the last two seasons, so there is reason to believe he may still be able to contribute enough to be a fantasy asset and when you consider he had 31 homers, 78 RBI, 53 runs and no stolen bases with a .211/.297/.462 slash line last year. Stanton didn't appear to be healthy during the final weeks of the season and after returning in August from achilles tendonitis, he hit .165/.266/.367 over 30 games, yet still homered seven times. Stanton hit .237/.319/.516 with 24 homers in 76 games during the first half of 2022, which should act as a reminder of what he can do when healthy. But he's not been able to stay healthy long enough to provide fantasy value since 2018. Stanton will start the season eligible as an outfielder and with an ADP of ~148, there is value to be had in 2023. If he can remain healthy, Stanton should provide significantly more value than at his ADP. But that's a massive 'if' right now.
