2 years agoSan Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (foot) didn't return to Sunday's win over the Dolphins after getting injured in the first quarter, requiring a trip to the locker room on the cart. Unfortunately, the latest update isn't positive, as the signal-caller suffered a broken foot. Even worse, per head coach Kyle Shanahan, he will undergo further testing on Monday and require season-ending surgery. Garoppolo wasn't expected to be on the roster heading into the 2022-23 campaign. However, after Trey Lance (ankle) was lost for the year, the veteran took over under center. A report recently surfaced indicating the 49ers and Garoppolo were open to maintaining their professional relationship next season. But, with the recent development, it's unknown if he'll be back. Nevertheless, rookie Brock Purdy, who finished with 210 yards, two touchdowns, and a pick in Week 13, could remain the No.1 option on the depth chart.
