Jeff Wilson Jr. Productive On Seven Carries In Week 7
2 years agoSan Francisco 49ers running back Jeff Wilson Jr. carried the ball seven times for 54 yards in the Niners' 23-44 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He was targeted once but didn't come away with the catch. His volume significantly declined from what it was prior to Christian McCaffrey joining the team in a trade with the Carolina Panthers. Wilson took over 10 carries in each of the past four weeks and 17 carries last week but less than half that this week. He continued to look good, hitting his holes with vision and powering through defenders. But it is likely that his role will be even more limited in Week 8 and beyond. McCaffrey didn't have the full workload that is expected of him. Still, it is also unlikely Wilson will be entirely phased out of the offense, given how productive he has been. Depending on your team's needs, it may be worthwhile to hang onto Wilson another week and see what his workload in an ordinary game is, but if you need to pick up a bye week replacement or a speculative player who shined, make Wilson one of your first cut candidates.
