Geno Smith 2022 NFL Player Outlook – Superflex Flyer With Little Upside
2 years agoSeattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith threw for 705 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception in three starts for an injured Russell Wilson in 2021. He agreed to a one-year, $7-million deal this offseason to return to Seattle after Wilson left town in a trade to Denver. That trade sent Drew Lock north to Seattle. As things sit today, NFL media is split on whether Smith or Lock will get the starting nod, but most agree the fantasy upside is relatively limited either way. Jimmy Garoppolo to Seattle rumors are swirling, so it's a challenging situation to navigate altogether. Ultimately, Smith could produce a solid fantasy outing on occasion with Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, but he's not worth drafting in traditional single-QB leagues. In Superflex or two-QB leagues, where all starting quarterbacks (and even some backups) are drafted, he might be a decent late-round flyer. That said, he's currently ranked 37th among all quarterbacks in the latest Rotoballer rankings, well behind Lock, who is at 30. This indicates that most fantasy managers believe Lock will start if Seattle doesn't make a move for a quarterback during training camp. However, Smith and Lock did receive good news when Baker Mayfield went to Carolina instead of Seattle.
