Esteury Ruiz Goes 2-For-4 In MLB Debut
2 years agoSan Diego Padres second baseman/outfielder Esteury Ruiz turned in a strong performance in his MLB debut against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday. He went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and an RBI. He was caught stealing in his only stolen base attempt of the game. Ruiz batted eighth in the lineup in Tuesday's contest and started in center field, but shifted to left field later in the game. Trent Grisham has been the team's primary center fielder this year, but he's had a dreadful time at the plate in 2022, slashing just .193/.294/.329. Injuries to Jurickson Profar (concussion) and Wil Myers (knee) have made the team extremely thin in the outfield, but both players should be back relatively soon. Ruiz may not be up in the majors long, but if he continues to hit well this week, he could force the team to keep him up. The 23-year-old has elite stolen base potential as he has stolen 60 bases over 77 minor league games this year while slashing .333/.467/.560.
