Buffalo Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons (lower body) is expected back in the lineup on Thursday as his team visits the Edmonton Oilers. The 28-year-old winger missed the entire 2020-21 season after having hamstring surgery and now hasn't played since January 25 because of a lingering lower-body injury. When he's healthy enough to play, Girgensons has just 12 points (seven goals, five assists) through 34 games played and has gone long stretched without tallying a point.--Chelena Goldman

Buffalo Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons has secured a new one-year deal with the club. The Sabres brought the Latvian forward back for his 10th season with the team for $2.5 million. Girgensons was Buffalo's first-round pick in 2012, and he's the team's current longest-serving player. The 29-year-old played a career-high 80 games in 2022-23, scoring 10 goals and notching 18 points with 114 shots on goal and 96 hits. Girgensons has tallied 174 points in total in 625 career games.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

Buffalo Sabres center Zemgus Girgensons scored a power-play goal on Saturday in Buffalo's 6-2 defeat against the Carolina Hurricanes. Girgensons scored with less than 26 seconds left in the second period to cut Buffalo's deficit to three at the time. He had three shots on goal and delivered four hits on the night. Girgensons snapped a five game point drought. The forward has played almost an exclusively defensive role (offensive zone deployment at 34.1%) but still has a respectable ten points in 23 contests. --Chris Wassel - RotoBaller
