BALLER MOVE: Start in 12+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: WR3 with risk
ANALYSIS: Should you start Zay Flowers in Week 14 for fantasy football?
The Baltimore Ravens offense is one of the best in the National Football League. Led by quarterback Lamar Jackson, the team is tied for the best record in the AFC at 9-3 and is in first place in the AFC North. However, a few weeks ago, the Ravens were dealt a major blow to their Super Bowl dreams after star tight end Mark Andrews was lost for the season with a leg injury.
Where does that leave the state of the Baltimore offense? Well considering they have all-world QB Jackson at the helm, they are never going to be in major trouble. However, having had a myriad of running backs try to win the starting job this season, none have succeeded, and they have yet to find a consistent run attack. The team's best chance at putting points up on the board comes from the legs and arms of Lamar, and their remaining pass catchers.
Former Boston College standout Flowers is making a name for himself in the NFL in 2023. He has certainly had his ups and downs, but he is mostly performing up to expectations and adding value to the fantasy football world. With the loss of Andrews, his role will certainly increase and his responsibilities will grow. He will undeniably see more targets, and his fantasy production should see an uptick for the remainder of the football season. His true competition for quarterback looks comes only from an injury-prone and inconsistent former star in Odell Beckham Jr., and a mediocre at best receiver named Rashod Bateman. Neither currently possess breakout abilities or have the speed and elusiveness of the rookie Flowers.
What fantasy value will Flowers have moving forward and in Week 14 against the Rams? Through the first three-plus months of his rookie campaign, the exciting WR has amassed 58 receptions, 613 receiving yards, and two receiving touchdowns, along with 56 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. Solid numbers for the 23-year-old, which has made him a consistent fantasy performer for managers. With that said, take caution if you are lucky enough to own him. In week 14, Flowers faces a stout Rams secondary which should likely cause him problems. Additionally, the weather forecast on Sunday calls for heavy rain and wind, which means poor passing conditions are on the horizon. The Ravens will likely rely on the legs of their quarterback, and a low-scoring affair is in the cards. Start Flowers as a WR3 or flex in Week 14, but keep your expectations low.
