The Baltimore Ravens selected wide receiver Zay Flowers with the 22nd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Flowers played four years at Boston College and took off in his senior season. He caught 78 passes for 1,077 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2022.
Flowers' arrival gives quarterback Lamar Jackson another weapon in the passing game, someone who excels after the catch. The rookie wide receiver and Jackson have also already formed a nice connection so far through training camp.
Where should you draft Flowers? Should you draft him in the later rounds? Let's dive in.
Zay Flowers 2023 Training Camp
It's still early in training camp, but Flowers has excelled in the early going. He is reportedly "dominating" one on one battles against Ravens' cornerbacks and appears to be a mismatch on the field.
With wide receiver Rashod Bateman on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to begin training camp, Flowers is taking full advantage of the opportunity. It's not surprising to see the rookie wideout already making an impact on the field. He ranked top five in the nation in touchdowns last season (12).
This offseason, the Ravens have stressed the importance of throwing the ball more in 2023. The arrival of Flowers, who has earned the nickname "Joystick" should be a big factor on offense this season.
Where Do I Draft Zay Flowers For Fantasy Football?
It's always exciting to draft rookies in fantasy football. While there might be some inconsistencies along the way, rookies have some of the biggest upside. Flowers surely falls into that category and should be targeted in the middle rounds of your fantasy drafts.
Despite him excelling in training camp so far, there's, of course, a risk in drafting Flowers. He'll have to compete for targets with Bateman, Odell Beckham Jr., and Mark Andrews in the passing game. He could be the third or fourth option on offense behind both Andrews and Beckham.
However, selecting him in the ninth round feels like the best spot for him in fantasy drafts this season. The Ravens didn't draft him in the first round to not utilize him on offense. Taking a chance on him in the ninth round could pay off, especially with Beckham and Bateman missing last season with injuries.
