BALLER MOVE: Start in 14+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: RB3
ANALYSIS: At the start of the 2023 season, Devin Singletary was the second running back listed on the Texans’ depth chart. The veteran was expected to serve as backup to Dameon Pierce, who was hoped to follow up his 939-yard rookie campaign in 2022 with another big year. As it was, Singletary leapfrogged the younger back and had his best season to date, logging career highs in carries (216) and rushing yards (898).
Cut to 2024, and the New York Giants find themselves with a Saquon Barkley-sized hole to fill on offense. Enter Singletary, who signed as a free agent in March, his third team in three seasons. Second-year man Eric Gray and rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. are waiting to make their marks but Singletary is expected to receive the lion’s share of opportunities out of the backfield.
On September 8, the Giants host the Minnesota Vikings, who allowed opponents just 3.8 yards per carry last season. The Giants offensive line, already one of the lowest-rated in the NFL, has been banged up all preseason. The starting unit practiced together as a whole for the first time on August 27, less than two weeks until the season kicks off. Singletary will see enough volume to be a productive fantasy back from a season-long stand point but unless you are in a deeper league, he is probably not worth getting excited about in Week 1.
One of my favorite individual plays by a #Giants offensive player was from Devin Singletary.
This run does not go for the 10 yards it went for in 2023.
That's not a knock on Barkley either. This run doesn't go for 10 yards with most RBs.
Singletary is a very nuanced runner. pic.twitter.com/85SJLVrlVx— Dan Schneier (@DanSchneierNFL) August 18, 2024
