Fantasy Baseball Impact Of Zack Greinke Being Placed On The 15-Day IL
The Kansas City Royals placed starting pitcher on the 15-day injured list on Thursday, per a tweet from the team’s official Twitter account. Per the tweet, Greinke is being placed on the 15-day injured list due to right shoulder tendinitis.
Greinke has pitched to a 5.44 ERA in 92.2 innings for the Royals this season. He’s also logged a 4.95 FIP and 64 strikeouts in the process while surrendering 18 home runs and 13 walks. In his place, the Royals recalled fellow hurler Dylan Coleman. The 26-year-old has pitched as a reliever for much of his professional career and figures to provide Kansas City with some extra bullpen depth.
A quality relief option for the American League Central club in 2022 when he logged a 2.78 ERA, a 3.88 FIP, 71 strikeouts, 37 walks and 16 holds in 68 appearances spanning 68 innings pitched, the right-hander has struggled mightily in the Majors this season. In six innings, the former Padres prospect has surrendered 11 earned runs, eight hits, eight walks, and a home run while striking out seven. He owns a 4.26 ERA and a 4.64 FIP in 19 Triple-A innings this season.
If Coleman can replicate his 2022 form, he’d certainly hold some fantasy appeal in deeper saves+holds league considering Kansas City just traded one of the team’s best high-leverage relievers in Aroldis Chapman. However, given his recent struggles, this is probably a situation to avoid for fantasy managers at the moment.
