ANALYSIS: Coming into the season, there were significant questions about the Diamondbacks' rotation. With virtually all of their starters coming off tough 2016 campaigns, it was clear that Arizona needed to catch a few breaks to contend this season. A lot of attention has gone to Robbie Ray's breakout and Zack Greinke's resurgence, but Zack Godley has been quite the pleasant surprise himself. Initially tabbed for a role in the bullpen, Godley instead won the final rotation spot in spring training and hasn't looked back.
The 27-year-old boasts a 3.06 ERA and 1.01 WHIP through 14 starts, and he's struck out over a quarter of the batters he has faced. Until recently, when he tossed back-to-back clunkers against the Braves and Nationals, Godley hadn't allowed more than three runs in any start. He bounced back nicely in his last game, tossing seven shutout innings against the Cardinals. He'll have his hands full with the Cubs tomorrow at Wrigley, but fantasy owners can expect more good days than bad from this late bloomer.
