Fantasy Baseball Impact Of The Cleveland Guardians Reportedly Calling Up Zack Collins
The Cleveland Guardians reportedly called up Zack Collins from Triple-A on Thursday, according to a tweet from MLB.com’s Mandy Bell:
For his Major League Baseball career, the 27-year-old is batting .185 with a .295 on-base percentage, 11 home runs, and a stolen base in 459 plate appearances in parts of four seasons since the start of the 2019 campaign.
He most recently appeared in the majors in 2022, splitting time between the Toronto Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Pirates. In 2022, Collins turned in four home runs, a .155 batting average, and a .231 on-base percentage in 108 plate appearances, while also posting a 57 wRC+.
Fast forward to this season and Collins has enjoyed a quality year at the plate so far for Cleveland’s Triple-A affiliate in Columbus, batting .255 with a .364 on-base percentage, 15 home runs, and four stolen bases in 470 plate appearances.
As a group, Guardians catchers have combined for a .177 average, a .250 on-base percentage, and a 52 wRC+. There’s certainly a need for production at the plate.
Rookie Bo Naylor is likely entrenched as the organization’s starting catcher moving forward. Collins is certainly a name to watch in deeper, two-catcher leagues if he can replicate some of his Triple-A production and form in the majors.
