Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet was the 52nd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Charbonnet had a productive college career.
He spent his first two years at Michigan. Charbonnet had 149 rushing attempts for 726 yards and 11 touchdowns as a freshman. He also had eight receptions for 30 yards that year. More importantly, Charbonnet led the team in rushing attempts, yards, and touchdowns that season.
Unfortunately, his production declined in 2020. Charbonnet had only 19 rushing attempts for 124 yards and a touchdown in five games as a sophomore. However, he transferred to UCLA before the 2021 season. That year the young star had 203 rushing attempts with 1,137 yards and 13 touchdowns.

What Did Zach Charbonnet Accomplish In 2022?
Some thought the UCLA star would have declared for the 2022 NFL Draft. Instead, Charbonnet returned to school for another year. Last season the star running back had 195 rushing attempts for 1,359 yards and 14 touchdowns. He set career highs in rushing yards and touchdowns last season.
The senior running back also averaged seven yards per rushing attempt, a career-high. Furthermore, Charbonnet also had 37 receptions for 321 receiving yards, setting career highs in both categories.
Where Do I Draft Zach Charbonnet For Fantasy Football?
Unfortunately, Pete Carroll and the Seahawks gave the fantasy football community the double bird during the NFL Draft. Instead of letting Charbonnet get drafted by a team without a young star running back on the roster, Seattle decided to limit the rookie and Kenneth Walker III’s fantasy upside.
However, that’s in the past, and fantasy players must deal with the backfield. The former UCLA star signed his rookie contract on Tuesday, just in time for training camp.
While Charbonnet will have to split the backfield with Walker, there are enough touches for both running backs. Last year the Seattle backfield had 352 rushing attempts and 70 receptions, with Walker accounting for nearly 60% of the touches. The other 40% will belong to the rookie.
The Seahawks didn’t use a second-round pick on Charbonnet to be Walker’s handcuff. Instead, fantasy players should expect a 60-40-like split in the backfield. Consider Walker and Charbonnet a watered-down version of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt from 2019 through 2021. Neither running back will be elite, but both will have meaningful fantasy value.
