ANALYSIS: Seattle selected Zach Charbonnet in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, just a year after drafting Kenneth Walker in the second round of 2022. Charbonnet has shown glimpses of being capable of leading an NFL backfield, but he's been held back by being second on the depth chart behind Walker.
Despite playing in one more game than Walker last season, Charbonnet received significantly fewer touches and targets.
In Week 1 of 2024, Kenneth Walker was playing well until an abdominal injury forced him out of the game. Charbonnet, who was questionable heading into the week, stepped up with ten touches, 41 total scrimmage yards and one touchdown.

On top of Charbonnet’s effort in Week 1, the arrival of Ryan Grubb as the Seahawks' offensive coordinator brings a fresh perspective to the offense, with the potential for running backs to play a larger role in the passing game compared to the past under Pete Carroll.
This shift bodes well for Charbonnet, who out-targeted Walker in passing situations in 2023.
While Walker’s status remains uncertain, Charbonnet’s performance (and the new OC) has cracked open the door for a larger role. Even if Walker doesn’t miss any time, there is reason to believe that Charbonnet has value as a depth piece on your fantasy team. His versatility and promise make him a valuable addition to fantasy rosters, as his opportunities could expand.
