Chris Young will still start Game 4 of the World Series for the Kansas City Royals despite throwing 53 pitches in relief for Game 1 on Tuesday.
Game 4 isn’t until Saturday, which means Young will still be on normal rest for his original scheduled start. With the score 4-4 in extra innings, Royals manager Ned Yost decided to bring in his schedule Game 4 starter for a long relief appearance. It worked out because the 36-year-old struck out four batters through three shutout innings for the win.

This isn’t the first time Young has come out of the bullpen this postseason. Prior to the right-hander pitching 4 2/3 innings of two-run ball in Game 4 of the ALCS, he pitched in long relief in Game 1 of the Division Series. It’s nothing new to him and he showed he can pitch well in any situation presented in front of him.
Next time Young pitches, he will face the Mets in New York.
