BALLER MOVE: Target ~240 Overall
ANALYSIS: Yasmani Grandal was traded to the Dodgers in the Matt Kemp deal, and will bat in a retooled lineup that now includes Howie Kendrick, Jimmy Rollins and Joc Pederson, to go along with Yasiel Puig, Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez. This equates to numerous run-producing opportunities for the switch-hitting Grandal.
He was surprisingly poor in such situations last year, hitting just .181/.276/.324 with RISP. Based on his offensive potential and the talent around him, he deserves a second chance. He was recovering from an ACL surgery in the beginning of 2014, but finished strong, hitting .291/.408/.519 with four homers in September.
Manager Don Mattingly has stated publicly that Grandal will receive the bulk of the playing time, but if Grandal is to become a top 10 catcher, he’ll need a full season. If he avoids significant time on the DL, he should outperform Wilin Rosario, despite going four or five rounds later.
