Wimbledon DFS Lineup Picks for DraftKings (7/4/23) - Day 2

Brandon Wampler's Wimbledon DFS Picks for Day 2 on 7/4/23. His top daily fantasy tennis players in cash games and tournaments.

Welcome to “The Slam”! This is the home for all Tennis as we welcome Wimbledon. Unlike regular Tour matches for ATP, Grand Slam matches are a BO5, however, the WTA matches will remain a BO3 and will be scored appropriately to equal that of the ATP.

The top two favorites from both ATP and WTA are Medvedev -10000 & Jarry -2500 and Sabalenka -4000 & Andreescu -525. I will guide you on Day Two of Wimbledon starting at 9:15 A.M. EST.

If you have any questions on today's slate, bankroll management, GPP strategy, Cash game strategy, or anything else, don’t hesitate to email me at [email protected], via Twitter @df_solutions, or in our Discord chat rooms.

High-Salary Players $9K+

Jelena Ostapenko - DK $9.3K | WTA Rank: 17

Opponent - Greetje Minnen | WTA Rank: 123

This slate is full of dazzlers in this salary range which could lead to Ostapenko either being extremely chalky or seeing much lower ownership than typical. In the Slam tennis rankings – posted on Twitter –, Ostapenko has a confidence of 18.5 out of 20 to win her match. Both players are hard-court players and the major difference between the two lies in their experience on grass this season. Minnen is 5-2 in all competitions on grass this season, however, she has just one win to speak of in an actual Tour match. Whereas, Ostapenko just recently beat Barbora Krejcikova at Birmingham to clinch her first grass tournament. Now one thing to recommend is to take a bit of caution with Ostapenko as she retired from her match against Camila Giorgi in Eastbourne last week after acquiring a leg injury during the tournament. It is still wildly believed that Ostapenko can handle Minnen in straight sets to start her run at a Wimbledon title.

Tommy Paul - DK $10.1K | ATP Rank: 15

Opponent - Shintaro Mochizuki | ATP Rank: 212

This couldn’t be much more straightforward. Mochizuki has not played a single Tour match on grass yet this season and all of his wins on grass in his last 10 matches are qualifiers against lesser opponents compared to that of Paul. There are not many stats to go off of thanks to Mochizuki’s limited time on Tour, leaving us a bit blinded on that front. However, nonetheless, Paul should guarantee a match win at this point as he strives for his first silverware at Wimbledon. Keep in mind that Paul is coming off a match recently and could be fatigued, but like Ostapenko with her potential nursing injury, Paul should make quick work of Mochizuki.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Jarry (DK $10.8K), Tiafoe (DK $9.8K)

Mid-Salary Players $7.5K to $8.9K

Paula Badosa - DK $8.8K | WTA Rank: 35

Opponent - Alison Riske | WTA Rank: 141

It would be astonishing if Badosa does not see at a very minimum 30 percent ownership in ‘CASH’ contests tomorrow. She possesses a confidence ranking of 13.5 out of 20 and has a history against Riske on grass – 1-1 record –. Riske however, has fallen off drastically in her play, not winning a single match on any surface since January – a qualifier for Adelaide –. Both matches she had – one on Tour – for grass so far this season she lost and her most recent one of the two, she retired from. Badosa on the other hand has been playing possessed at times and most notably defeating Coco Gauff at Madrid during the clay season. The only risk of playing Badosa is her non-existent grass record this year. This will be World Number 35’s first match on grass, albeit a very appealing matchup at that.

Karolina Muchova - DK $8.7K | WTA Rank: 16

Opponent - Jule Niemeier | WTA Rank: 103

Taking a $100 step down in the player pool and we land on Muchova. Similar to yesterday there are not very many appealing options in this mid-tier salary range which will force many to go the safe routes with players like Badosa and Muchova. Like Badosa though, Muchova has yet to play a grass-court match this season, leaving her at a slight disadvantage coming into a match against Niemeier who has shown she can beat big names, taking Ons Jabeur in straight sets at Berlin two weeks ago. Prior to Muchova’s lengthy absence from the spotlight, she had lost to World Number One, Iga Swiatek in a deciding match at the French Open. Muchova clearly has the tools needed to defeat someone like Niemeier and getting these top-tier players at mid-range salaries is going to be the way in ‘CASH’ contests. Muchova should not see below 20 percent ownership.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Huesler (DK $7.6K), Wickmayer (DK $7.5K)

Low-Salary Players <$7.5K

Zhizhen Zhang - DK $6.7K | ATP Rank: 52

Opponent - Botic Van De Zandschulp | ATP Rank: 44

I don’t care what anyone says, I will die on the Zhang hill tomorrow! Despite bookies and oddsmakers alike, Zhang is looking more and more appealing. VDZ has not won a single Tour match since his victory over Taylor Harry Fritz at Munich in March and he ended up losing to Holger Rune in a deciding set in the Finals. Since then he has lost both of his grass-court matches – 2-0 to Tiafoe and 2-1 to M Ymer –. Meanwhile, Zhang has defeated both Sonego and Cressy on grass court with Sonego being the more notable of the two. Zhang is a hard-court player and will be able to take advantage of the faster grass surface, whereas, VDZ will struggle to adapt as shown already. Like Burrage yesterday, Zhang will be the key to opening up the slate and all of the potential higher-salary options.

Arthur Fils - DK $6.8K | ATP Rank: 61

Opponent - Alejandro Davidovich Fokina | ATP Rank: 34

Fils is electric and a ton of fun to watch as a fan of the game. He will be a handful for ADF who is struggling mightily since the turn to grass. Davidovich Fokina has played four total grass court matches – 2 Tour and 2 Challenger – and all four he has lost with three of them going in straights. Fils is more of a clay court player, as is ADF, however, his level of experience is much more dominant overall when considering the players he has beaten in his last ten matches – Auger Aliassime, F Cerundolo, Harris, Herbert and Popyrin –. A few of those players ADF has lost to in his last ten matches. Furthermore, these two have already played once this season at the French Open where Fils took the match 3-1. A similar story is not out of the picture here.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Marino (DK $6.9K), Brouwer (DK $4.2K)

Thanks for reading The Slam. Good luck in all of your contests today!
