With the departures of two of Drew Brees' biggest targets last year (Jimmy Graham and Kenny Stills), many wondered who in the New Orleans receiving corps would be the man to step up. Five games into the season, it seems as if that man is Willie Snead.
Snead followed up a solid Week 4 performance with an even better Week 5 performance against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, grabbing six receptions for a total of 141 yards. The question remains though: is Willie Snead the man to own in the New Orleans receiving corps?
The answer is yes. Though fellow receiver Brandin Cooks has been targeted seven more times than Snead this season (Cooks has 40 targets, while Snead has 33 targets), the Ball State product has more receiving yards than Cooks (Snead has 381 yards, Cooks has 322 yards), a higher yards-per-reception average (Snead averages 17.3 yards per catch, Cooks averages 12.9 yards per catch), and it's on fewer receptions (Snead has 22 receptions, Cooks has 25 receptions).
Snead has shown the ability to break games open and is clearly becoming more comfortable in the Saints offense. Snead is turning into a viable weekly flex play, and may be a solid WR2 as the season progresses.
