New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones was a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The former Alabama star quarterback had an impressive final year in college, totaling 4,500 passing yards and 41 touchdowns compared to only four interceptions. Furthermore, he finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting that year.
Jones started his NFL career playing well. He won the starting job as a rookie. More importantly, the rookie completed 67.6% of his pass attempts for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions in 2021.
Unfortunately, Jones regressed last year. He struggled with injuries, missing three games. Furthermore, the former first-round pick saw his competition percentage, passing yards per game, and touchdown rate decline from his rookie season. More importantly, the Patriots had former defensive coordinator Matt Patricia replace Josh McDaniels as the offensive coordinator last year.

Will The Patriots Trade Mac Jones?
Thankfully New England won’t make the same mistake in 2023, as the team hired Bill O’Brien to return as their offensive coordinator. O’Brien spent time with the Patriots as an offensive coach from 2007 through 2011. O’Brien’s return made fantasy players excited to see what Jones would do this upcoming season.
However, the Patriots reportedly have been shopping the former first-round pick this offseason. Last year Jones nearly lost his starting job to fourth-round rookie Bailey Zappe.
Which Teams Would Be The Best Fit For Mac Jones?
Reportedly four teams are potentially interested in trading for Jones: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Las Vegas Raiders, Houston Texans, and Washington Commanders.
All four teams are logical landing spots, as they don’t have a franchise quarterback on the roster. However, the most likely landing spot is the Raiders.
While they signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a three-year contract this offseason, the deal has an out after the 2023 season. Therefore, the Raiders are only committed to Garoppolo this year, as they can release him next offseason and save $13 million in salary cap space.
More importantly, McDaniels was Jones’ offensive coordinator as a rookie before taking the Las Vegas head coaching job last year. He could want to reunite with the former first-round pick. Furthermore, the Raiders could offer the Patriots the No. 7 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft as part of the deal to acquire the quarterback. A potential trade could be the No. 7 overall pick and a third-round selection in exchange for Jones and the 14th overall pick.
