Will The Patriots Sign Dalvin Cook? Is Cook A Good Fit For The Patriots? Fantasy Football Outlook

Dalvin Cook - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

Will The Patriots Sign Dalvin Cook? Is Dalvin Cook A Good Fit For The Patriots? Read the 2023 NFL free agency outlook.

Veteran running back Dalvin Cook was the 41st overall pick by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2017 NFL Draft. Cook had a terrific college career, totaling 687 rushing attempts for 4,464 yards and 46 touchdowns in three years at Florida State. Furthermore, he had 79 receptions for 935 receiving yards and two touchdowns in college.

Unfortunately, his NFL career got off to a rocky start. The former Florida State star missed 12 games as a rookie with a torn ACL. Cook then struggled with injuries in 2018, missing five games. However, he turned his career around starting in 2019.

Cook made four consecutive pro bowl teams from 2019 through 2022. During those four years, the veteran averaged 4.7 yards per rushing attempt. Furthermore, he had over 5,000 rushing yards and 43 touchdowns during those four years.

Will The Patriots Sign Dalvin Cook?

Despite making the pro bowl each of the past four seasons, the Vikings released Cook a few weeks ago. While the veteran running back has taken his time finding a new home, three teams have consistently been in the mix for the former Florida State star.

Those three teams are the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and New England Patriots. However, the betting market has the Dolphins and Patriots are the favorites to land the star running back at +200, while the Jets are third at +400.

Is Dalvin Cook A Good Fit For The Patriots?

The Patriots have their No. 1 running back spot locked up with Rhamondre Stevenson. However, New England lost Damien Harris in free agency this offseason. While they signed James Robinson to fill the No. 2 role, the Patriots waived the veteran a few weeks ago.

With Harris and Stevenson off the roster, Pierre Strong Jr., Ty Montgomery, and Kevin Harris are the running backs on the depth chart behind Robinson. While some fantasy players have high hopes for Strong, the Patriots would be foolish not to consider Cook.

While adding the veteran running back makes sense for New England, it severely hampers his and Stevenson’s fantasy value. The former Oklahoma star would likely be a top-10 running back this season without Cook on the roster. However, both running backs become mid-level RB2s or worse if Cook joins the Patriots.
