New England Patriots quarterback Jakobi Meyers has put together back-to-back productive years. The former North Carolina star had only 85 receptions for 1,088 receiving yards and zero touchdowns over his first two years in the NFL.
However, the veteran receiver has back-to-back seasons with over 800 receiving yards. Furthermore, Meyers had a career year in 2022, totaling 67 receptions for 804 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He had only two career receiving touchdowns entering the 2022 season.
Despite coming off a career year, the Patriots will not use the franchise tag on the veteran wide receiver.

Will The Patriots Re-Sign Jakobi Meyers?
New England will allow the veteran receiver to test the open market next week. However, the Patriots would welcome him back at the right price.
Even if Meyers returns next year, the Patriots have a massive hole at wide receiver. They reportedly are in the mix to trade for DeAndre Hopkins or Brandin Cooks. If New England adds one of those star receivers, Meyers likely won’t return in 2023.
Which Team Could Sign Jakobi Meyers In Free Agency?
Last year Christian Kirk signed a massive four deal worth $72 million with Jacksonville Jaguars. Many thought the contract was an awful deal for the team. However, the veteran receiver had a career year in 2022 with 84 receptions on 133 targets for 1,108 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
This year’s free agent wide receiver class isn’t very talented. Meyers and Allen Lazard are the top two options this year. Therefore, some believe Meyers could land a deal similar to Kirk’s last offseason. However, Meyers will reportedly earn between $12-$14 million a year on the open market. By comparison, Kirk earned an average of $18 million a year last offseason.
Ideally, Meyers returns to New England next year. He is coming off a career year and has built chemistry with Mac Jones. While that probably won’t happen, the veteran receiver will have multiple suitors on the open market.
One potential landing spot is the Atlanta Falcons. The team used their 2022 first-round pick on Drake London. However, the rest of their receiving core is underwhelming. Furthermore, the Falcons have plenty of cap space this offseason. They can offer Meyers a heavy deal that will be hard for others to beat.
