Raheem Mostert has always been a head-scratcher of a talent for fantasy football managers. He has the speed of a track star and the body of a bruiser, so he can run outside or between the tackles with equal effectiveness. When Mostert has been healthy during his career he has been an above-average running back and at times a fantasy force.
The problem is Mostert has had a harder time staying healthy in the NFL than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has staying away from the gym. He has only suited up for 16 games in seasons twice since entering the league in 2015 and has missed 24 games over the past three years. There are not many bones Mostert has not broken or ligaments he has not torn.
Mostert stayed injury-free for most of the 2022 campaign, however, and led the Miami Dolphins with 181 carries for 891 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He also added 31 receptions for 202 yards and another pair of scores. Mostert thrived again playing in Mike McDaniel’s offense, just he did during their days with the San Francisco 49ers. So now that Mostert is a free agent, will he re-sign with the Dolphins or take his talents elsewhere? Here is my take:

Will the Dolphins Re-Sign Raheem Mostert?
While it would be foolish to give him a multimillion-dollar deal due to his injury history, Miami would be foolish not to bring back Mostert on a cap-friendly contract. He knows McDaniel’s system and can teach it to other running backs the Dolphins bring in during the offseason. Miami will likely revamp their backfield because Mostert, Jeff Wilson, and Myles Gaskin are all free agents. It is doubtful they all return, and the Dolphins will probably use an early-round draft choice in April on a running back, but Mostert is the odds-on favorite out of that trio to return.
Mostert might not be durable, but he is certainly versatile. He has enough pass-catching ability that he can play on passing downs. He can get the hard yards in short-yardage situations and near the goal line. He can also break big gainers with his surprising speed when given the opportunity. The question has never been what Mostert can do on the field, it has been when will he be on the field.
Look for Miami to reunite with Mostert for another go-round in 2023. He should have another solid season as one of the top two backs in a Dolphins offense loaded with premium pass catchers. McDaniel loves Mostert and knows how to use him to the best of his ability. I predict Mostert signs a friendly two-year deal and is a top-30 fantasy RB next season. As long as he does not tear an ACL, of course.
