The New York Jets had a disappointing 2022 season, ending with a 7-10 record. New York finished last in the AFC East for the sixth time over the past seven seasons.
Despite the team’s elite defense, the Jets lost six straight games to end the year. The defense held their opponents to only 18.6 points per game, the fourth-fewest in the NFL. However, the offense struggled, averaging only 17.4 points per game in 2022, the fourth-fewest in the league.
While quarterback wasn’t the only problem for New York this year, it was their biggest problem. Zach Wilson struggled in his second year in the NFL. Meanwhile, Mike White had some solid moments this season.

Will The Jets Cut Or Trade Mike White?
White was a fifth-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2018 NFL Draft. However, the former Western Kentucky star never played for the Cowboys. Furthermore, he didn’t make his NFL debut until the 2021 season.
Over the past two years, the veteran quarterback has played in eight contests, starting seven. White has thrown for 2,145 yards, eight touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in his career. Despite the lackluster numbers, the quarterback will draw interest this offseason.
After spending the past couple of years with the Jets, White will be a free agent in March. While New York could place the franchise tag on the quarterback and try to trade him, that is extremely unlikely.
The only question left for White is whether or not he will return to the Jets in 2023.
Will Mike White Be Back With The Jets In 2023?
Given the team’s reported interest in Aaron Rodgers, fans shouldn’t expect White back next season. If the Jets acquire the three-time MVP from the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers would be the starter, with Wilson as the backup.
Instead, the Los Angeles Rams are a likely landing spot for White. Former New York offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur is now part of Sean McVay’s coaching staff in Los Angeles.
Matthew Stafford should return as the starter, but Baker Mayfield will likely have a new home this offseason. Therefore, adding a capable backup like White is critical for the Rams, especially given Stafford’s injury history.
