Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts exploded in his third NFL season, leading all fantasy quarterbacks on a points-per-game basis and taking the Eagles all the way to the Super Bowl.
There’s no question that the former second-round pick is the future at quarterback for Philly.
Hurts is entering the final year of his rookie contract in 2023, becoming a free agent after the upcoming season. Will the Eagles sign the current face of their franchise to a long-term deal?

Is Jalen Hurts A Free Agent in 2023?
Since Hurts was a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, he is not eligible for a fifth-year option like the quarterbacks who went ahead of him in Round 1- Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, and Jordan Love- are.
Since Hurts only has a year left on his contract, the questions surrounding an extension arose immediately following the gutting Super Bowl loss.
Hurts stated that he only cares about winning and is not currently focused on a new contract.
Will the Eagles Sign Jalen Hurts to an Extension?
There was a time not so long ago in Philly when Carson Wentz was perceived as the franchise quarterback of the team and an MVP candidate.
A few injuries and inconsistencies later and the Eagles’ fanbase has fallen in love with Jalen Hurts, the quarterback from Houston, Texas who has been counted out time and time again only to consistently prove the doubters wrong.
Prior to the Super Bowl, Eagles’ CEO Jeffrey Lurie said that Hurts has nothing left to prove to earn an extension.
It’s not a matter of if, but a matter of when for the two sides to hammer out a deal. Jalen Hurts is here for the long haul and behind a loaded Eagles roster, they should remain a contender for years to come.
