Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon has had a productive NFL career. The former Oklahoma Sooner has rushed for at least 800 yards in four of the past five years.
However, he had a disappointing 2022 season. Coming off the best year of his career in 2021, Mixon regressed this season, averaging only 58.1 rushing yards per game, his lowest average since his rookie season.
Furthermore, the star running back scored 55.6% of his fantasy points and 25.4% of his touchdowns this year in the Week 9 matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

Will The Bengals Cut Joe Mixon?
Mixon was a second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He had the talent needed to be a first-round pick. However, his off-the-field history impacted his draft stock.
Unfortunately, the star running back found himself back in the news yesterday for the wrong reasons. An arrest warrant was issued for Mixon on one count of aggravated menacing.
Shortly after the warrant became public knowledge, Mixon’s agent said the charge against him would get dropped.
Even without the events over the past 24 hours, the running back’s future with the Bengals was up in the air. The star running back averaged a career-low 1.5 yards after contact per rushing attempt this year. Furthermore, Mixon turns 27 years old in July.
More importantly, Cincinnati can save $7.3 million in salary cap space by cutting the running back this offseason. The team can save even more by designating Mixon as a post-June 1 cut, creating $10 million in salary cap space.
While it’s not a lock that Mixon has played his final down with the team, the Bengals will likely move on from the running back this offseason unless he agrees to a pay cut.
Who Could The Bengal Add To Replace Joe Mixon?
If Cincinnati decides to move on from the star running back this offseason, they will have plenty of suitable replacements. This year’s free agency class is loaded with talented running backs.
However, signing a veteran will cost the team cap space they need to use on Joe Burrow’s extension. Instead, expect the Bengals to address running back during the 2023 NFL Draft. At the top of the list is Bijan Robinson.
The Texas star was the best in college football last year and the only running back guaranteed to be a first-round pick in April.
