Even though San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said after the regular season that Deebo Samuel Sr. would not be traded, it appears that might not be the case anymore. According to NFL Network NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the 49ers are "expected to explore" trading the wideout this offseason.
This comes after Samuel had arguably the worst season of his career. He caught just 51 passes for 670 yards and three touchdowns. His poor 2024 campaign marked the second time in three years that the 29-year-old has failed to top 700 receiving yards in a season.
So, where could Samuel get traded to this offseason? Let's dive into five potential landing spots for the former Pro Bowler.

Pittsburgh Steelers
It would be somewhat of a shock if the Pittsburgh Steelers weren't at least trying to trade for Samuel this offseason. They have over $40 M in cap space (Over the Cap), and the Steelers could definitely use another wideout on offense. Outside of George Pickens, Pittsburgh struggled to find much production from its other wide receivers last season.
This was the turning point for Deebo Samuel this year. His approach with the media was different after this, especially coming off his not enough touches tweet.

As a result, Samuel would be a great fit for this Steelers offense in 2025. Whoever starts for Pittsburgh next season would get another weapon in the passing game, which would help improve an offense that ranked 23rd in yards per game this past year.
Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears are a sneaky team to land Samuel this offseason. The Bears will be able to take on some of his salary in the trade since they have the sixth-most cap space, and Chicago could use a wide receiver like him next season.
With Keenan Allen set to become a free agent, Samuel would almost be a perfect fit for the Bears. He would give Caleb Williams another option in the passing game while making this Chicago offense a better all-around unit. General manager Ryan Poles has also not been shy to trade away picks for proven veterans. He acquired both Montez Sweat and Allen via trades over the past two years.
Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders will no doubt be in the market for a wide receiver in the coming months. Noah Brown, Dyami Brown, and Olamide Zaccheaus are all free agents this offseason. So, Washington will be looking to replace that group from 2024.
The #Commanders are expected to have trade interest in #49ers Deebo Samuel.

Samuel could be a nice target for an offense that should only improve in 2025 with Jayden Daniels under center. He would give Daniels another weapon in the passing game, and Washington has the cap space to make the deal happen. The Commanders are set to have over $78 M in cap space this offseason (Over the Cap).
New England Patriots
Adding a veteran like Samuel to this Patriots offense next year could really help develop Drake Maye in his second season. After throwing to Kayshon Boutte, DeMario Douglas, and Kendrick Bourne in his rookie campaign, acquiring the 49ers wideout in a trade would be a big upgrade for Maye in 2025.
Money also shouldn't be a problem for the Patriots, as they are set to have the most cap space this offseason. Over the Cap projects New England to have over $120 M to spend. This team should be one of the favorites to acquire Samuel in the coming months.
Los Angeles Chargers
If the Chargers want to have a better offense in 2025, they will need to add another wide receiver this offseason. Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston both showed great things in the passing game this past season, but Los Angeles should be in the market for another playmaker.
That makes the Chargers a potential landing spot for Samuel this offseason. He would give the team more speed in the passing game and give Justin Herbert another big-time weapon. With over $63 M in cap space to also spend, Los Angeles could be a trade destination for the 49ers wideout.
