Since the Baltimore Ravens drafted wide receiver Rashod Bateman with the 27th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Ravens have not seen much production from the young playmaker. He has totaled just 800 receiving yards and three touchdowns in his first two years in the league.
A large part of that is due to injuries. Bateman has missed 16 games to begin his NFL career in his first two seasons. In 2022, a Lisfranc injury kept him out of action for the final nine games of the year.
So will Bateman report to training camp? What is his fantasy outlook this season? Let's dive in.
Will Rashod Bateman Report To Training Camp?
As Bateman works his way back from the season-ending foot injury he suffered in 2022, the 23-year-old wideout did very little work during the early months of the offseason. He received a cortisone injection to, hopefully, get him back on the field as soon as possible.
Bateman, though, did not report to training camp with the other injured Ravens players during the week. We don't know entirely why he didn't report to training camp yet, but it likely won't last long. The former Minnesota product is not in line for a new contract either.
It is also encouraging to hear that General Manager Eric DeCosta spoke to Bateman and said that the team "expects him here very soon." There doesn't seem to be a major conflict developing between the wideout and the Ravens. So, he should report to training camp shortly.
Rashod Bateman Fantasy Football Outlook
Injuries have limited Bateman’s fantasy value in his first two seasons. The former 2021 first-round pick has averaged just 8.7 PPR fantasy points in his career, and that average might not jump up a ton in 2023 — even if he does stay healthy.
This offseason, the Ravens added two big-time weapons to their wide receiver room for quarterback Lamar Jackson in Odell Beckham Jr. and Zay Flowers. Baltimore signed Beckham to a one-year deal and drafted Flowers with its first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Bateman has shown some potential when on the field. He had double-digit fantasy points in the first two weeks of the 2022 season. But there’s a chance he’ll be the fourth option in the Ravens' passing game behind Flowers, Beckham, and tight end Mark Andrews. For that reason, he might struggle to put up consistent fantasy numbers every week.
