The Kansas City Chiefs had a 14-3 record during the regular season and earned the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs. Leading the team to the top seed was quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
After their first-round bye, the Chiefs faced the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Divisional round of the playoffs. They came away with a 27-20 win as Mahomes had 195 passing yards and two touchdowns in the victory despite suffering an ankle injury.
Kansas City then faced the Cincinnati Bengals with a trip to Super Bowl on the line for the second straight year. Unlike last year, the Chiefs came away with a 23-20 win. Mahomes was fantastic in the victory, totaling 326 passing yards, two touchdowns, and a critical first down to set up the game-winning field goal.

What Did Patrick Mahomes Do This Season?
Despite losing Tyreek Hill in the offseason, the former Texas Tech star had an outstanding 2022 season. Mahomes led the league in passing yards (5,250), passing touchdowns (41), and quarterback rating (77.6).
Furthermore, he had over 40 passing touchdowns this year for the second time in his career. The other time was in 2018 when Mahomes won the regular season MVP award. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the superstar is the likely MVP favorite this season.
More importantly, Mahomes had several highlight reel plays throughout the regular season and the playoffs. In the postseason matchup against the Jaguars, the superstar quarterback had an impressive one-legged touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
Will Patrick Mahomes Win The Super Bowl MVP?
According to PointsBet Sportsbook, the Kansas City quarterback has the second-best odds to win Super Bowl MVP this year at +125, just behind Jalen Hurts at +110. Those odds aren't surprising, as a quarterback tends to win the award most years.
Over the past 16 Super Bowls, a quarterback has won the MVP award 11 times, including two of the past three years. However, a wide receiver has won the award in two of the past four years, including a year ago. Cooper Kupp was the eighth wide receiver to receive the award last year, totaling eight receptions for 92 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the win over the Bengals.
Mahomes should be the Super Bowl MVP if the Chiefs win the game.
