The Dallas Cowboys sit at 3-3 on the year and have struggled at times, including an embarrassing 47-9 defeat on Sunday against the Detroit Lions.
Is McCarthy going to be fired this year, though? What does the team's history suggest about whether it will fire a coach midseason?

The Case For Firing Mike McCarthy
The Cowboys are still very much in the NFC East race, but the team has had two pitiful losses, losing 44-19 to the Saints and 47-9 to the Lions.
“nothing could be more embarrassing than losing 47-9 at home”, i said after the game.
the home stadium blurring the score is more embarrassing. https://t.co/8vkKGJ03D1

Those games have brought up plenty of questions about this Cowboys team. Can it win with McCarthy as head coach and with Dak Prescott at quarterback?
And with Prescott playing on a new deal, it would make sense for owner Jerry Jones to shake things up by making a coaching change.
History Of Cowboys Coach Firings
Jerry Jones started his tenure by firing Tom Landy, so he's no stranger to making a move. But how often has Jones fired a coach during the season?
Jerry Jones fired Wade Phillips on Nov. 8, 2010, after a 45-7 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Not saying a change is coming right now but it's 47-9 in the fourth quarter, a near parallel situation (same score difference).

Not often. Only one head coach has ever been fired midseason, as Jones fired Wade Phillips in 2010 after a 1-7 start.
But the Cowboys had a ready-made predecessor there that year. Jason Garrett was promoted to head coach and held the spot through the 2019 season.
Will The Cowboys Fire Mike McCarthy?
The fact that Jerry Jones hasn't made a lot of in-season firings during his tenure should give Mike McCarthy some sense of security, but a move is certainly not out of the question.
There is no legitimate reason for Mike McCarthy to be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys after today. He is a failure.

Cowboys fans want the change to happen and the team could turn to current defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, who previously served as head coach for the Vikings.
Still, my money is on McCarthy surviving the season but being fired as soon as the year ends unless the Cowboys make the playoffs.
