New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram has had an impressive NFL career after a Heisman-winning collegiate career at Alabama, but he's already played well past the age apex for running backs, so he could be a candidate to retire this offseason.
The 33-year-old ball carrier could still draw interest from NFL teams to be a committee back or veteran presence, but either way, Ingram's days of being a workhorse are long gone as his play has declined.
How did Ingram perform in 2022 and will he retire this offseason? Let's dive in.

Mark Ingram II 2022 Season Review
In 10 games, Ingram rushed 62 times for 233 yards and totaled 16 receptions for 68 receiving yards, finding the end zone just once in his 12th NFL season. He averaged just 3.8 yards per carry, his second-worst rushing average in a single season.
In Week 13, he suffered a torn MCL after just 78 touches on the year, which is not a good sign for things to come if he decides to give it another go.
He is far removed from his days as one of the best rushers in the NFL with the Saints and Baltimore Ravens, so it'll be interesting to see what decision he makes this offseason.
Will Mark Ingram Retire this Offseason?
According to AL.com, Ingram said he has no plans to retire this offseason.
“I have all intentions on preparing myself mentally, physically, emotionally to prepare myself to get ready for a team," Ingram said. "Hopefully, that’s the Saints. Hopefully, they bring me back. We’ll see. But if not, I’ll be getting healthy, I’ll be working my butt off for whatever opportunity does arise, and so no retirement over here. Mark Ingram II ain’t done yet."
That said, barring a major change of heart, Ingram will look to be on a roster in 2023. New Orleans is probably the favorite for which team he'll be on in 2o23, especially since Alvin Kamara could face a suspension early in the season after an off-the-field incident last year.
