Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen has been a "real life" and fantasy stud for a decade since being drafted in 2013, but the 30-year-old's future has some uncertainty this offseason. As quarterback Justin Herbert's contract negotiations come closer, the Chargers will have decisions to make regarding aging veterans on pricy deals.
Allen still had plenty of juice in 2022 when active, so if he's not in Los Angeles next season, he'll be a sought-after free agent ahead of the 2023 NFL season. That said, this will be a fun situation worth monitoring.
How did Allen perform in 2022 and will he be released by the Chargers this offseason? Let's get to it.

Keenan Allen 2022 Season Review
In 10 games, Allen caught 66 of his 89 targets for 752 yards and four touchdowns. He missed seven of the team's first nine games but was still a target magnet and volume receiver when he returned to action. In the final regular season game of the year against the Denver Broncos, Allen caught eight of his 11 targets for 102 yards and two touchdowns.
Both Allen, Herbert, and Mike Williams dealt with injuries all season, but their passing offense was ultimately good enough to get them into the playoffs, and Herbert finished second in the league with 4,739 passing yards.
Still, Allen will be 31 next season, and there's a chance the Chargers move on from the long-time stud for their franchise.
Will Keenan Allen Be Released By The Chargers?
Allen would represent $14.8 million in cap savings as a pre-June 1 cut and $17.5 million savings post-June 1, and there is already buzz that he could be a cap casualty this offseason. The Chargers move on from Allen, there's a good chance they'll select a receiver early in the 2023 NFL Draft. If they don't cut him, the Chargers still need to add more speed at the position, so there should be fresh faces in L.A. either way.
If Allen becomes a free agent, there will be no shortage of interest from contending teams. It's too early to know how the wide receiver landscape will shape up this offseason, but Allen is a real asset to an offense and can be dropped into almost any passing attack and be productive right away.
