Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams was the third running back selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, just behind Najee Harris and Travis Etienne. After a promising rookie season, he gained real fantasy football hype heading into year two.
After an 11-reception game in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, he looked to be poised for a breakout season. However, Williams suffered a season-ending injury in Week 4 against the Las Vegas Raiders, and his Week 1 status for the 2023 season is uncertain.
Will Williams be ready for Week 1 of 2023 and what is his fantasy football outlook after a major injury in 2022? Let's discuss.

Javonte Williams Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Williams (knee) could be held out of multiple games to open the 2023 season, according to a source. Williams suffered a torn ACL and LCL in the Week 4 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 and missed the rest of the season. Many fantasy managers expected last season to be the 22-year-old's breakout campaign, but he didn't last very long before going down.
That said, his fantasy outlook for 2023 could take a hit, as finding serviceable running backs for early-season production can be a tricky endeavor in seasonal leagues.
Javonte Williams 2023 Fantasy Outlook
There's a risk Williams start the season on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list, which means he would miss at least the first four games of the season. If the Broncos believe that will be the case, they'll likely bring in help at the running back position, which could mean a limited workload for Williams when he does return.
Williams could have a J.K. Dobbins-like season in 2023 where he handles limited touches and misses several games in the middle of the season due to a reaggravation of his injury. Additionally, the Broncos offense could once again be one of the worst units in the NFL, which means fewer scoring opportunities for all fantasy-relevant players.
Overall, there are plenty of reasons to be concerned about Williams in 2023 fantasy drafts, but it could make him a value if he falls too far. He is also a decent buy-low candidate in dynasty if you're willing to wait until 2024 for a fully healthy season.
