Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams was a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Williams was the third running back drafted behind Najee Harris and Travis Etienne.
While Harris was the top fantasy rookie running back that season, the former Tar Heel star had a productive season. Williams ended the year with 203 rushing attempts for 903 yards and four touchdowns. Furthermore, he was the RB17, averaging 10.8 half-point PPR fantasy points per game.
Following his solid rookie season, fantasy players were excited to see what the star would do in 2022.

What Did Javonte Williams Accomplish In 2022?
Williams was going to be the featured guy in Denver last year until the Broncos re-signed Melvin Gordon late in the offseason. However, the second-year running back was still a popular fantasy pick.
The former North Carolina star had 47 rushing attempts for 204 yards and four touchdowns last season. Williams also had 16 receptions on 22 targets for 76 receiving yards. Unfortunately, the star running back suffered a severe knee injury in Week 4, knocking him out for the rest of the season.
Furthermore, the knee injury has put Williams’ status for the start of the 2023 season in doubt.
Will Javonte Williams Be Ready By Training Camp?
Reportedly the star running back is progressing well. Head coach Sean Payton recently said the team is hopeful Williams will be ready for training camp. The coach also added that the third-year star was doing extremely well.
Fantasy players should be excited to hear this news about Williams. Even if the star running back starts training camp on the physically-unable-to-perform list, that doesn’t mean Williams will miss any regular season games. A few months ago, the fantasy community was worried the star running back could miss the first half of the 2023 season.
What Should Fantasy Players Expect From Javonte Williams This Season?
While it sounds like Williams should be ready for Week 1, fantasy players should temper their expectations. The star running back is coming off a severe injury. Even if he plays Week 1, Williams likely won’t be 100% until the middle of the season.
Furthermore, the Broncos signed Samaje Perine this offseason. However, the veteran running back won’t be a backup to Williams. Instead, Perine will have a consistent role on offense. Payton used multiple running backs in New Orleans and will do the same in Denver with Williams and Perine.
