What Did Jalen Hurts Accomplish In 2022?
Last year Hurts was a popular breakout candidate. Not only did the quarterback have an MVP-like season, but he became a fantasy superstar. Hurts completed 66.5% of his pass attempts for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns last year, all career highs.
The superstar had 165 rushing attempts for 760 yards and 13 touchdowns. Hurts set career highs in rushing attempts and touchdowns in 2022. Furthermore, he finished second in the NFL with his 13 rushing touchdowns, totaling five more than any other quarterback.
More importantly, Hurts was the QB3 last season, averaging 25.2 fantasy points per game. However, he missed two games with a shoulder injury. The superstar was the QB1 on a points-per-game basis, scoring 0.5 more fantasy points per game than Patrick Mahomes.
Will Jalen Hurts Be The Fantasy QB1?
After having a breakout season in 2022, many have argued that Hurts is the QB1 this season.
Last year the superstar quarterback played a significant role in Philadelphia’s rushing attack. The Eagles had the fifth-most rushing yards and the most rushing touchdowns in 2022. While Hurts led the team in rushing touchdowns, Miles Sanders had the best year of his career, totaling 259 rushing attempts for 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns, all career highs.
However, he signed with the Carolina Panthers in the offseason. The Eagles replaced the veteran with D’Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny. Unfortunately, they are two of the most injury-prone players in the NFL. Therefore, Hurts should have a larger role in the run game this season, making him potentially the QB1 in 2023.
