Buffalo Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid was the 25th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. While many draft experts believed there could be three or more first-round tight ends, Kincaid was the only one selected.
The Bills have one of the more underrated tight ends in the NFL, Dawson Knox. However, the team felt Kincaid was too good of a talent to pass on. Furthermore, Buffalo traded up on draft night ahead of the Dallas Cowboys to secure the rookie tight end.
While the team clearly loves the former Utah star, what should fantasy players expect from the rookie this season?

What Did Dalton Kincaid Accomplish At Utah?
Kincaid spent three years at Utah. His career started slowly, totaling only one reception for 14 receiving yards in 2020. However, he had a breakout season the following year. Kincaid had 36 receptions for 510 receiving yards and eight touchdowns that season. Furthermore, he finished third in the Pac-12 in receiving touchdowns.
While some believed the tight end would declare for the 2022 NFL Draft or transfer, Kincaid returned to Utah. The young tight end had a career year in 2022, totaling 70 receptions for 890 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He finished fourth in the Pac-12 in receptions, seventh in receiving yards, and third in touchdowns. More importantly, Kincaid made several impressive catches last year.
Will Dalton Kincaid Be A Top-12 Fantasy Tight End In 2023?
What should fantasy players expect from the tight end in his rookie season? Well, star pass rusher Von Miller is already a massive fan of Kincaid.
However, is that enough for fantasy players? No, it’s not. Kincaid should have a meaningful role as a rookie. Yet, a few things are limiting his upside.
The Bills have an elite wide receiver in Stefon Diggs, who demands a massive target share. The superstar wide receiver has averaged 161.3 targets per season in his three years with the team. Meanwhile, Gabe Davis saw a career-high 93 targets last year. Knox also had 65 targets in 2022.
More importantly, tight ends rarely make a fantasy impact in their rookie year. While Kincaid could become a fantasy star one day, he won’t be a top-12 tight end as a rookie.
