San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was one of the most surprising breakout rookies last season, especially considering he was the very last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Purdy went 5-0 as a start down the stretch and won two playoff games before suffering an injury in the NFC Championship Game loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. His status has been a major topic this offseason and we have his latest update.
Will Purdy be ready for the start of training camp? Let's get into it.

Will Brock Purdy Be Ready For Training Camp?
Purdy (elbow) is headed to Jacksonville to throw the next couple of weeks with quarterbacks coach Will Hewlett and orthopedic specialist Tom Gormely, which is another sign that Purdy is progressing through his rehab following offseason elbow surgery. He remains on track to be ready for the start of the 2023 season.
After an impressive rookie season in 2022, the 23-year-old appears to be San Fran's starter under center this year as long as he's fully healthy. That said, his status for the start of training camp is still in question. If he's not ready for camp at the end of July, Sam Darnold and Trey Lance will split first-team repetitions in practices.
Brock Purdy 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
For the same reasons Jimmy Garoppolo was fantasy-relevant when healthy with the 49ers, Purdy will be too. The Niners love to run the football, but they have had an efficient passing attack thanks to pass-catchers Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle -- and now Christian McCaffrey.
Purdy won't provide rushing upside, but he simply has to be an adequate distributor to post a mid-range fantasy QB2 season. San Francisco should remain one of the league's top offenses, so there are plenty of opportunities for easy scores and fantasy points.
There will continue to be speculation on who the 49ers' starter will be until we actually see who is under center in Week 1, but for now, Purdy seems to be the significant favorite to win Kyle Shanahan's QB1 job.
