New York Jets running backs Michael Carter and Breece Hall have competed for the RB1 chair this offseason and in fantasy football, drafters are curious about who has the leg up in the competition as Week 1 draws near. After Carter posted 964 yards of offense on 183 total touches, his dynasty value and pre-NFL draft ADP began to skyrocket. However, when Hall was drafted by New York with the 36th overall pick, Carter's short-term and long-term fantasy outlook took a turn for the worst.
Hall posted 3,941 rushing yards in three years at Iowa State, adding 82 receptions for 734 yards for good measure. 56 total touchdowns are just the cherry on top of his stellar collegiate career.
His all-purpose skill-set and college production led him to be drafted as the first running back off the board, and he's largely been the consensus number one overall pick in rookie drafts, even in Superflex leagues, where QBs carry a premium.

Is Breece Hall or Michael Carter the Jets' RB1?
While Carter could take plenty of work from Hall early in the season, draft capital is king, and it's silly to think New York would've invested precious draft capital in an RB if he wasn't going to carry the load in the short and long term. Hall's prospect profile is far superior to Carter's, hence why he was taken two rounds earlier just a year after the Jets invested a fourth-round pick in Carter.

National Fantasy Championships' ADP shows Hall coming off the board at the RB19 slot, while Carter is being taken in the RB41 area. Unless the majority of fantasy managers are wrong, this should tell us all we need to know. Unlike rookie wide quarterbacks, wide receivers, and tight ends -- running backs often come ready to produce right away.
This Jets' offensive line is better than most people think, and the weaponry at wide receiver and tight end should keep the defense honest against the Zach Wilson (knee) led offense.
We've seen players like Jonathan Taylor and Cam Akers take off late in their rookie seasons, and if Hall isn't ultra-productive right away, we can at least hope for a strong campaign near the fantasy playoffs with league-winning upside. Carter is a solid depth piece in case of a Hall injury, but don't count on him as a weekly starter moving forward.
