Why The Washington Commanders Can Win Super Bowl LIX – Conference Championship Week Edition

Jayden Daniels - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

The Washington Commanders had low expectations entering the 2024 NFL season. Their preseason win total was over/under 6.5 wins, with many experts picking the under. However, that was a massive mistake.

Washington ended the regular season with a 12-5 record, nearly doubling their preseason win total. They ended the regular season on fire, winning five consecutive games to end the year.

More importantly, the Commanders have been arguably the best team over the first two weeks of the NFL playoffs. Can they win Super Bowl LIX? Let’s dive into their case to win it all.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Why The Washington Commanders Can Win Super Bowl LIX

The Commanders defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs, winning 23-20 on a last-second field goal by Zane Gonzalez. While they were slight underdogs, Washington’s win over Tampa Bay wasn’t considered an upside.

However, they defeated the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs and Super Bowl favorites Detroit Lions last week in the Divisional Round. The Commanders came away with a 45-31 victory, with Jayden Daniels totaling 299 passing yards, two touchdowns, and 51 rushing yards. Dyami Brown stepped up, leading the team in receptions (six) and receiving yards (98) in the blowout win.

Washington will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. It will be the third time these two NFC East teams have faced off this year, with both franchises winning the regular season matchup at home. The Eagles are the home team and 5.5-point favorites.

Yet, both regular season matchups between the division rivals ended in one-score games, meaning either team could have won. The Commanders must stop Saquon Barkley to advance to the Super Bowl. The superstar running back had at least 146 rushing yards in both regular season matchups.

If Washington can defeat Philadelphia, they will face the Buffalo Bills or the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. While both teams have an elite quarterback and talented defense, Daniels and the Commanders are the hottest team in the NFL, giving them a chance to pull off the upset.
