If you’re picking early in your fantasy football draft, you’ve probably found yourself debating between the abundance of receivers that go in the late second round/early third round.
Three key WRs at that point of your draft are Chris Olave, Deebo Samuel Sr., and Nico Collins. These players are most likely your second WR or even your first if you decide to target the RB position heavily.
So of the three, who are you taking? My name is Ellis, and this is how we should be approaching this dilemma.

Chris Olave Fantasy Football Outlook
Of the three, I am avoiding selecting Chris Olave. Although a talented route runner, this Saints team is not going to be good. Plus, this team is projected to have one of the worst offensive lines in the league. No one (including the Saints) wants to be relying on Derek Carr under pressure to deliver accurate balls.
Even with limited target competition, Olave is going to be more of a volume WR2 with limited weekly upside. If that’s the kind of player you want, I’d rather target Diontae Johnson three/four rounds later in drafts.
Are you drafting Chris Olave this year? 🤔

Deebo Samuel Fantasy Football Outlook
Deebo Samuel is my second option as a high-upside player who is best drafted as your WR2. The 49ers are notorious for game-planning their playmakers in certain matchups, sometimes to the detriment of certain players.
Samuel's volatility means I prefer him as a WR2, rather than your top WR. If you have selected one of the top WRs who will consistently give you production every week, Samuel is the perfect WR2.
Nico Collins Fantasy Football Outlook
My favorite of these three has to be Collins. Being linked to C.J. Stroud, Collins has a similar weekly upside as Samuel and could be more consistent. Last year, he finished as the WR12, even missing two games.
Even with the arrival of Stefon Diggs, Collins is the clear first option in this passing game. As a result, he has a clear path to being a WR1, making him a great pick if you start your draft with two RBs or want a powerful WR stack.
Welcome to primetime: CJ Stroud hits Nico Collins for a 75-yard TD on his very first offensive play.
