Who Plays on Thursday Night Football in Week 15?
The Los Angeles Chargers travel to Las Vegas to play the division rival Las Vegas Raiders. The game is being shown on Prime Video, and it starts at 8:15 PM ET.
Both teams are 5-8 and have been struggling this year. The Chargers suffered multiple injuries at key positions like quarterback and wide receiver. WR Mike Williams tore his ACL early in the season, and now QB Justin Herbert is confirmed to be out for the season with a finger injury.
The Raiders fired head coach Josh McDaniels. Initially, they had some success under interim coach Antonio Pierce, but now they've lost the last three, including being shutout by the Vikings last week and losing by just three. They benched veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and are starting Aidan O'Connell.
Who Will Win on Thursday Night Football in Week 15?
The Las Vegas Raiders are set as 3-point favorites on Thursday Night Football. But either team could win this game. Well, either team could certainly lose as well.
With Herbert (finger) on IR, the Chargers are starting Easton Stick at quarterback. Stick, who is in his second year, completed 13-of-24 passes for 179 yards in a 24-7 loss to the Denver Broncos last week. Even before Herbert went down, LA was struggling. They have scored 23 points in the past three games.
Meanwhile, the Raiders scored exactly zero points last week, but they only allowed three points, so at least their defense played well! Observers thought the 3-0 loss was mostly the result of poor offensive efforts by both sides. But the Raiders are slight favorites because their quarterback, Aidan O'Connell, has more experience than Easton Stick and has played relatively better than him.
What Are the Playoff Implications of Thursday Night Football in Week 15?
Neither the Raiders nor the Chargers are technically eliminated from playoff contention yet, but their chances are minimal. PFF's NFL Power Rankings page gives the Raiders a 2% shot of making the playoffs, and the Chargers have a 1% chance.
The results of this game also wouldn't have much of an impact on any other team's chances. If the Chargers win out and the Chiefs lose the rest of their games, the Chargers will win the AFC West.
