Who Plays on Sunday Night Football?
Baltimore Ravens @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Sunday, Dec. 17, 8:20 pm, NBC
Week 15's Sunday Night Football game features a marquee matchup between 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and 2021 number one draft pick Trevor Lawrence. Jackson is back in the MVP race this season. He has the third-highest probability of winning the award, according to the betting markets, as of writing. Lawrence has not made the jump to elite level some expected of him, but he still has the ninth-best MVP odds.
Luckily for the Ravens, Jackson is playing. He showed up on the injury report with an illness last week, but he is perfectly fine now. Tight end Mark Andrews is still on the IR, but safety Kyle Hamilton got a full practice in and could be back.
The Jaguars defense will be without safety Andre Cisco (groin) and cornerback Tyson Campbell (leg), while fellow CB Tre Herndon (head) is questionable, so the Jags' secondary could be a weakness.
Who is Favored to Win Tonight on Sunday Night Football?
The Baltimore Ravens are three-point favorites over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday Night Football. The moneyline is BAL -183. Baltimore has won three straight and seven of the last eight, but they don't cover the spread consistently. Their wins last week against the Rams and in Week 8 over the Cardinals were both closer than expected.
Betting minds and models seem to favor the Ravens. PFF's Greenline feature says the good money is on taking the Ravens to win and cover the spread. Bettors agree. Sixty-five percent of the tickets and 64% of the cash is on the Ravens.
What Are the Playoff Implications of Tonight's Sunday Night Football Game?
The Ravens have a one-game lead over the Dolphins for the number one seed in the AFC playoff race. The Dolphins have the tiebreaker over the Ravens because they have a higher win percentage in conference games.
If they lose and the Dolphins beat the Jets, they will move into the No. 1 spot in the AFC. The two teams will meet in Week 17. It could be a decisive battle for the first-round bye.
The Jaguars are one game up on the Colts. The Jaguars beat the Colts twice earlier this year, so they would win a tiebreaker. The Jaguars follow this up with games against the Buccaneers and the Panthers, so they would be expected to win those two games, but then they face the Titans in Week 18. The Colts also have two easy games upcoming against the Falcons and the Raiders before a division matchup against the Texans in Week 18. Depending on what happens, we might see the Colts and Jaguars play game three in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.
