Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask are batting for the starting job at training camp. Mayfield has had plenty of ups and downs in five seasons in the NFL, while Trask has thrown just nine passes since entering the league in 2021.
Whether Trask or Mayfield wins the job, both will be viewed as low-end fantasy quarterback options -- which could make one of them a sleeper in preseason drafts.
Is Mayfield or Trask the Week 1 starter for Tampa Bay? What are their potential fantasy football outlooks? Let's dive in.

Will Baker Mayfield or Kyle Trask Start in Week 1?
Trask is reportedly closing the gap on Mayfield in the team's competition for the starting quarterback role. According to Bailey Adams of PewterReport.com, Trask has taken care of the football and is looking impressive during training camp.
"While Mayfield may have been the early favorite because of his experience in the NFL and his familiarity with (offensive coordinator) Dave Canales' style of offense, Trask has made strides and closed the gap in the last few days," Adams wrote. "What he lacks in experience, he's made up for by being decisive and not turning the ball over." Mayfield has reportedly thrown five interceptions at camp, while Trask has thrown just one.
For now, Mayfield is still in the driver's seat to be the Week 1 starter, but Trask could make things interesting down the stretch.
Buccaneers Quarterback 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
Regardless of which quarterback is the Week 1 starter, both should be on the fantasy radar in superflex and two-QB formats. Either one of them could lose their job due to poor play at some point in the season, and any starter is valuable in those leagues.
Either signal-caller could have mid-range QB2 upside throwing passes to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Wide receivers often elevate quarterbacks, so it's not out of the realm of possibilities for one of them to be a decent fantasy producer.
This time last year, few believed Geno Smith would even win the quarterback job over Drew Lock -- never mind produce a QB1 season in fantasy football. Smith was excellent, but it didn't hurt that he had DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett to work with. Could Evans and Godwin do the same for Trask and Mayfield? There is a chance.
