The Denver Broncos released Russell Wilson after two years with the team earlier this offseason. Denver traded multiple first and second-round draft picks and three veteran players to the Seattle Seahawks in 2022 for the veteran quarterback.
Unfortunately, things didn’t work out for Wilson and the Broncos. The veteran signed a one-year deal this offseason with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He will compete with Justin Fields for the starting role in Pittsburgh.
With Wilson no longer with the team, who will be Denver’s Week 1 starting quarterback?

Who Is The Current Starting Quarterback For The Broncos?
The Broncos have only two quarterbacks on the roster. Jarrett Stidham is a former fourth-round pick by the New England Patriots in the 2019 NFL Draft. He started Denver’s final two games of the 2023 season, totaling 66 pass attempts for 496 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Stidham is currently the team’s starting quarterback, with former XFL star Ben DiNucci as the backup.

Who Could The Broncos Pick During The NFL Draft?
While head coach Sean Payton and the Broncos swear they are confident in Stidham as the starter, the team would be foolish not to pick a quarterback during the 2024 NFL Draft. Denver owns the 12th overall pick in the first round.
Unfortunately, the team doesn’t have a second-round pick because of the Payton trade. Therefore, it will be difficult for the Broncos to trade up for a top-tier quarterback.
Yet, that shouldn’t stop Denver from using their first-round pick on a quarterback. Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr. won’t be top-10 picks but could get drafted on Day 1. Many around the NFL believe Nix has a significant chance of getting drafted by the Broncos with the 12th overall pick.

However, Nix and Penix aren’t the only options for Denver. The team could trade back in the first round and acquire a second-round selection. They have a third-round pick at 76th overall.
Spencer Rattler might still be on the board when the Broncos are on the clock. However, many around the NFL believe he could get picked in the second round. Another option could be Michael Pratt. The former Tulane star isn’t an elite quarterback prospect but has the traits needed to fit Payton’s offense.
