The 2024 NFL Draft is only a few weeks away. With the NFL Combine in the rearview mirror, prospects have their Pro Day and private workouts to impressive teams.
Nearly everyone agrees that Caleb Williams is the top quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft. The former USC star is all but a lock to get drafted first overall by the Chicago Bears.
However, should Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, or J.J. McCarthy be the second quarterback off the board? Let’s dive into it.

Jayden Daniels – LSU
Daniels was impressive as a freshman at Arizona State, posting a 17-2 passing touchdown to interception ratio. However, he only played 17 games over the next two years, totaling 15 passing touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Yet, Daniels was outstanding during his time at LSU.
The quarterback had a solid 2022 season, totaling 17 passing touchdowns compared to three interceptions. However, he was unbelievable last year. Daniels won the Heisman Trophy after totaling 40 passing touchdowns, 10 rushing scores, and only four interceptions. Reportedly, the Washington Commanders are leaning towards drafting him with the second overall pick.
🚨REPORT: The #Commanders are leaning towards drafting Jayden Daniels with the 2nd overall pick, per @SInow.
This would put the #Patriots in position to select Drake Maye.

Drake Maye – North Carolina
While Caleb Williams was declared the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after his impressive freshman season, Maye has been widely considered the No. 2 pick for the past few years. The North Carolina star was outstanding in his first season as the starter, completing 66.2% of his pass attempts for 4,321 yards and 38 touchdowns compared to seven interceptions.
Unfortunately, Maye’s production took a hit last year after losing Josh Downs and other critical parts of the offense to the NFL. He had 3,608 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in 12 games last season. Yet, the betting market believes Maye will get drafted with the third overall pick by the New England Patriots.

J.J. McCarthy – Michigan
No one would have made an argument for McCarthy a few months ago. However, the quarterback’s draft stock has been rising since Michigan won the National Championship. McCarthy didn’t have to put up massive numbers in college. Yet, he played well, completing 67.6% of his pass attempts for 6,226 yards, 49 touchdowns, and only 11 interceptions during his three-year college career.
McCarthy didn’t need to produce eye-popping numbers for Michigan to win. The Wolverines had an outstanding rushing attack and defense. Yet, NFL teams are intrigued by McCarthy’s traits, including his mobility.
