ANALYSIS: Whit Merrifield has had to step in for an injury ridden Kansas City Royals team and he has delivered pleasantly surprising results in his 150 AB. He currently has two HR, four SB in five attempts, and a slash line of .307/.329/.427. The most appealing part of Merrifield's game is his BA and ability to run the base paths. He has improved steadily as he progressed in the minor leagues with a .260 BA in 857 AB at the A+ level, a .271 BA in 580 AB at the Double-A level, and a .290 BA in 1,009 AB at the Triple-A level in addition to 59 total stolen bases. Merrifield has also had a strikeout percentage of just 13.1% when he was at Triple-A Omaha. He has showcased solid plate discipline and base running skills throughout a nice track record in the minors, and he is producing with the same skill set for the Royals who are hoping to make a run for back-to-back titles.
