Veteran running back Kareem Hunt is currently a free agent. The former Toledo star running back was a third-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Hunt had an excellent rookie season, totaling 272 rushing attempts for 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns. He also had 53 receptions on 63 targets for 455 receiving yards and three touchdowns as a rookie. Furthermore, his 1,327 rushing yards led the NFL.
Unfortunately, Hunt ran into trouble off the field. The Chiefs released the young star running back after only 27 games with the franchise. However, the former Toledo star signed with the Cleveland Browns in 2019. Over the past four years with the Browns, Hunt has averaged 4.2 yards per rushing attempt.

What Did Kareem Hunt Accomplish In 2022?
The veteran running back has split the backfield work with Nick Chubb since joining the Browns. However, his production has slipped recently. Hunt had 841 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns in his first full season with the team. He also added 38 receptions on 51 targets for 304 receiving yards and five touchdowns, leading the Browns.
Last year, Hunt showed signs of regression. He averaged only 3.8 rushing yards per game, a career-low. The veteran running back totaled 123 rushing attempts for 468 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Furthermore, Hunt had only one receiving touchdown in 2022.
Which Teams Could Sign Kareem Hunt?
Fans shouldn’t expect Hunt back with the Browns next season. The veteran running back asked for a trade before last year. However, Cleveland held onto the former Toledo star as they were trying to make a playoff push.
While free agency is over a week old, Hunt remains available on the open market. Given his age and decline in production last year, no one should be surprised that the veteran running back is still unsigned.
Despite his age and disappointing 2022 season, Hunt should find a new home before the 2023 NFL Draft. Several NFL teams could use a veteran presence in their running back’s room.
One potential landing spot is the Seattle Seahawks. Last year the team hit a home run with Kenneth Walker. However, the Seahawks have lost their top two backup running backs in free agency. Rashaad Penny signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, while Travis Homer joined the Chicago Bears. Hunt would give the team a veteran option behind Walker, who could start if the former Michigan State star misses time with an injury.
