Veteran wide receiver Sterling Shepard was a second-round pick in 2016 by the New York Giants out of the University of Oklahoma. During his four years in college, he had 233 receptions for 3,482 receiving yards and 26 receiving touchdowns.
Shepard had an excellent rookie season, totaling 65 receptions on 105 targets for 683 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He was second on the team in every category, finishing only behind Odell Beckham Jr.
Unfortunately, the former Oklahoma receiver has struggled with injuries during his NFL career. Shepard has missed 34 games over the past four years, playing seven or fewer games in two straight seasons.

What Did Sterling Shepard Accomplish During The 2022 Season?
Shepard suffered a torn Achilles in Week 15 of the 2021 season. Not only did the injury end his season, but it put the start of the 2022 season in doubt. However, the veteran receiver was ready to go on opening weekend against the Tennessee Titans.
He had a strong performance, totaling 71 receiving yards and a touchdown against the AFC South team. Furthermore, Shepard was solid over the next two weeks. He had 11 receptions on 20 targets for 83 receiving yards during that span. Unfortunately, the veteran suffered a torn ACL in Week 3, ending his season.
Which Team Could Sign Sterling Shepard In The 2023 Offseason?
Shepard’s contract was voided on Wednesday, making him a free agent and eligible to sign with any team immediately. However, the veteran receiver will have to wait as teams want to know how he’s recovering and what other wide receivers will hit the open market next month.
The good news for the veteran is that he has come back from injuries in the past. Unfortunately, his injury history will keep him from earning a massive multi-year new deal this offseason. However, there are a few potential landing spots for Shepard.
One possible landing spot is the New England Patriots. Jakobi Meyers has likely played his final down in New England, so the team will need to find a replacement slot receiver. Another potential landing spot is the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Pittsburgh has a talented duo of wide receivers on the outside with Diontae Johnson and George Pickens. However, Steven Sims isn’t a starting-caliber slot receiver. Shepard would be a massive upgrade. More importantly, the Steelers need to give Kenny Pickett more weapons at wide receiver this offseason.
