It’s NFL Draft Eve, and us NFL fanatics only have to wait one more day before the darling event of the offseason kicks off. The Carolina Panthers will be on the clock at 8 PM sharp, and while they are expected to lean towards Alabama quarterback Bryce Young it is not yet a sure thing.
Beyond that, it’s anybody’s guess at how Round 1 will shake out tomorrow night. One of the most intriguing position groups is wide receiver, with anywhere from 3-7 expected to go off the board on Day 1.
TCU wide receiver Quentin Johnston is one of the most polarizing prospects at the position. Where might the 6-3, 208-pound receiver land?

Quentin Johnston Career Review
Johnston joined TCU in the class of 2020, being ranked as the 14th receiver in the class. He made an immediate impact, grabbing 22 catches for 487 yards and two touchdowns in his true freshman season to lead the team in yards in the shortened season. Johnston flashed his potential with back-to-back 100-yard games to end the season.
He again led the team in receiving in 2021 despite playing only eight games due to injury and began to garner attention as an NFL prospect for the 2023 draft. In a 52-31 loss to Oklahoma, Johnston had a career performance with seven receptions for 185 yards and three touchdowns.
Johnston led the team in receiving again in 2022 and had his first career 1,000 yard season, grabbing 60 balls for 1,069 yards and six touchdowns. He became a household name in the CFP Semifinal matchup against Michigan, where he caught six balls for 163 yards and an explosive 76-yard touchdown.
The obvious upside of Johnston’s game is his size and his 4.5 speed. He has a strong contested catch ability, but at times he has struggled to create space on his own and to run smooth routes. While he possesses the intangibles, NFL scouts have had mixed reviews of him as a prospect.
Which NFL Team Could Draft Quentin Johnston?
Johnston was once considered a surefire first-round selection, but as of late, there are rumblings that he could fall out of the first and may not be selected tomorrow night.
Per Yahoo Sports, Johnston was not invited to the draft in order to “avoid an awkward moment” in the event that he falls out of the first round.
With this news, there is a strong belief that Johnston will not be a first-round selection and we have seen that reflected in recent mock drafts.
If Johnston ends up being selected in the back end of the first round, a team like the Dallas Cowboys or Buffalo Bills could scoop him up as a luxury addition to their receiver room. For Johnston, this would be ideal as he would be able to develop on a winning team.
If he falls to Round 2, we could see a rebuilding team like Houston, Arizona, or Carolina scoop him up. While these teams all have a strong need for receivers, he would be expected to produce immediately which may not be as good for his development.
While the list of TCU wide receiver prospects is full of busts (Josh Boyce, Josh Doctson, Jalen Reagor), Johnston will look to buck the trend. Wherever the big-bodied receiver lands, his upside is immense and he has all of the talent to be an impactful receiver in the league.
