The 2023 NFL Draft is a few months away, but the excitement is building. While this year’s wide receiver class lacks the superstar names like in 2021, there are plenty of talented options.
There are three wide receivers considered locks to go in the first round: USC’s Jordan Addison, Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and TCU’s Quentin Johnston. However, there are plenty of talented second and third-round prospects too.
One of those players is North Carolina’s Josh Downs. The former Tar Heel will be an excellent addition for some team in the second round.

What Did Josh Downs Do In His College Career?
As a freshman, the wide receiver had only seven receptions. However, he totaled 119 receiving yards and three touchdowns that year, showing off his big-play abilities. In 2021, Downs broke out for North Carolina. The team recently lost Dyami Brown and Dazz Newsome to the NFL, allowing Downs to step up as the No. 1 wide receiver. He had 101 receptions for 1,335 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
Last year the star receiver had another productive year, totaling 94 receptions for 1,029 receiving yards and a career-high 11 touchdowns. Furthermore, Downs made several impressive plays downfield.
While some have labeled Downs a slot receiver due to his slender frame, the North Carolina receiver’s game is similar to T.Y. Hilton.
Which Team Could Pick Josh Downs In The 2023 NFL Draft?
The NFL has become a weapons league, meaning teams need multiple talented pass catchers to succeed. There are plenty of teams who could draft the former North Carolina star. In addition to his over-the-top speed, Downs is an underrated route runner and can leave defenders out of position.
Unfortunately, Downs likely won’t be a first-round pick because of his smaller frame. However, he should be a second-round pick and a potential steal. The best fantasy football landing spot for downs is the Atlanta Falcons.
Last year they used their first-round pick on Drake London. The former USC receiver had a solid rookie year, totaling 72 receptions for 866 receiving yards and four touchdowns. However, the rest of the Atlanta wide receiver core is lackluster. Downs would be excellent playing next to London, given both players' strengths and weaknesses.
