The 2023 NFL Draft is so close we can almost smell it! All of the rumors and smokescreens will be put to rest tomorrow at 8PM as the Carolina Panthers take the podium.
Round 1 is sure to be madness as we see where the top prospects land and as we await massive trades like last year’s blockbusters involving A.J. Brown and Marquise Brown.
One prospect that has intrigued some scouts as of late is Ole Miss wide receiver Jonathan Mingo. Mingo was initially considered a mid-round pick, but has risen as high as the back-end of Round 1 in some mocks. Where will the late-rising receiver land?

Jonathan Mingo Career Review
Mingo flew under the radar early in his career, playing behind the likes of Elijah Moore, Dontario Drummond, and Kenny Yeboah in the pecking order. His best season over the first three years of his career was 2020, where he had 27 receptions for 379 yards and three touchdowns.
Mingo broke onto the scene this past season, putting up career highs in receptions (51), yards (861) and touchdowns (5). The 6-2, 225-pound receiver tested strongly in athleticism with a 4.46 40-time and is considered the second most athletic receiver in the draft class by Player Profiler.
Mingo can operate out of the slot but also has the ability to stretch the field. Being able to move all over the field is a trait that NFL teams covet, and has attributed to his late rise up draft boards.
Which NFL Team Could Draft Jonathan Mingo?
Mingo looks to follow in the footsteps of fellow Ole Miss receivers A.J. Brown and D.K. Metcalf and has drawn some comparisons to the two with his size and speed combination.
The former Rebel can truly come off the board anywhere from Round 1 to Round 4 and his landing spot will be fascinating.
There have been rumblings of the New York Giants taking an interest to Mingo. Picking 25th, there is a real possibility we see him selected at the end of Round 1 if they truly love him enough to pull the trigger that early. The Giants have a boatload of depth pieces at receiver but lack star power with a roster currently holding Wan’Dale Robinson, Parris Campbell, Isaiah Hodgins, Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton, and Jamison Crowder. In New York, Mingo would have a legitimate chance to immediately become the go-to guy.
Another team to keep an eye on for Mingo is the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City’s receiver depth chart currently consists of unproven talent in Kadarius Toney, Skyy Moore, Richie James, Justyn Ross, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. If Mingo lands with the Chiefs, the hype will blow up in a Skyy Moore-esque way.
While Mingo probably won’t hear his name tomorrow night, it is very unlikely he falls past Day 2. He will be an intriguing prospect to follow throughout training camps to see if the hype continues to build.
